Google employees stage large-scale walkout

The walkout began around 11 a.m. local time in Tokyo. Other offices, including those in Singapore, Dublin, London, Berlin, Zurich and New York followed suit at 11 a.m. in their respective time zones. The Twitter account @GoogleWalkout and hashtag #GoogleWalkout tracked the protests as they occurred across the globe. Employees streamed into the plaza near Building 43.

Thousands gathered, with some speaking and chanting from center stage with a megaphone.

A table with markers and poster board was available for employees to make signs.

For more than an hour, a parade of employees headed to the plaza at Google's Building 43 for the protest.

One sign reads, "Don't be evil. Protect victims, not harassers."

Security was more aggressive than usual at the protest event, and the press was kept at a distance.

Thousands of Google employees protest the search giant's handling of sexual harassment cases.

"We're really representing movements that have been at Google for a long time," Celie O'Neil-Heart, one of the walkout's organizers, told reporters. "It's much bigger than us."
