Here Maps from Nokia gives you global maps, directions, satellite maps, and transit information. The main screen of the app shows your current location as a pin on the map.

Compass

If your phone has a compass, you can tap the location button in the lower left-hand corner of the app to activate the compass mode in Here Maps. Then the map will rotate to match the compass, meaning if you point the top of your phone due west, the map will point west as well.

Public transporation

You can see public transporation routes and lines in the transit map. In San Francisco, only the underground subways and cable car lines were visible -- there were no bus routes.

Satellite view

Another map view shows satellite images. I had issues with the satellite map loading in places, even over Wi-Fi. Some parts of the map would stay blurry for several seconds before they loaded, and other images never loaded at all.

LiveSight

Here Maps has an augmented-reality feature called LiveSight. The app shows nearby points of interest over your camera's viewfinder, and as you move your phone, more places appear.
