Lego Minecraft

When the committed tech lovers in your life already have the latest smartphones, the best tablets and enough headphones to last a lifetime, it can be pretty difficult to find them something for Christmas they will actually appreciate. Luckily for you, we've hunted down some of the most fun tech gifts that may not have sprung to mind when you first wandered down the high street.

What do you get when you combine the coolest building toys of the 20th and 21st centuries? Lego Minecraft! There are a range of sets available, allowing you to build your own version of various locations from the smash-hit dig-'em-up. Sets include a cave haunted by zombie and spider mobs, a set taking you to the end to meet the Ender Dragon, and this set, which is £40 from Amazon, that sets you up for the first night in your first shelter, complete with a pig, a creeper and a minifig of Steve himself.

DJI Phantom 2 Vision+

Get to the chopper! Help your loved ones drone about their latest high-flying adventures with the DJI Phantom 2 Vision+ Quadcopter, a £940 multi-rotor, remote-control flying machine that can fly for up to 25 minutes and even switch to autopilot when you want to take a break.

Its camera, mounted underneath, can shoot video in full HD resolution and is stabilised by a three-axis gimbal, ensuring the footage is buttery-smooth.

GoPro Hero 4 Silver

That the brand name GoPro has become synonymous with all action cameras is no accident. The GoPro Hero cameras are small enough to strap to any part of your body, come with waterproof housings and produce stunning, full HD video.

The £289 Hero 4 Silver is the latest addition to the lineup and can shoot 2.7K video at 30fps, full HD at 60fps or 720p at 120fps -- allowing for some amazing slow-motion action. There's a touchscreen on the back too to help you set up your shots and watch them back.

If your friend is forever bragging about the ease at which they ski down the mountains, get them a GoPro for Christmas and demand that they prove it.

Nerf N-Strike Mega Centurion

Help your hard-working loved ones overcompensate in office battles by equipping them with the Nerf N-Strike Mega Centurion.

As well as a huge name, this foam dart-firing beast is one of the biggest Nerf blasters available. It fires whistling oversized darts up to 23 metres and has a tripod for stealth shooting -- more than enough to wipe that smug smile off the face of Keith from accounting.

The Mega Centurion is available online for under £50.

Doctor Who Tardis Speaker

Although it's not bigger on the inside than it is on the outside, the sound this Tardis speaker produces is certainly bigger than you might expect.

Meticulously styled after the nation's favourite Time Lord's iconic mode of transport, the Tardis speaker can stream music from your phone via Bluetooth. It also has a flashing light on top and even makes the famous Tardis "vworp vworp" sound when you switch it on.

Get the Tardis speaker directly from the BBC now for £150 or Amazon.co.uk

Razor Crazy Cart

Whether you're shopping for children, or just adults like us who like to act like children, the Crazy Cart from Razor will be a guaranteed hit.

It's an electric-powered, rechargeable go-kart which, thanks to rotating casters on the back, lets you drift round corners like the most fearless rally drivers. Perhaps this one is best demonstrated in video.

The Crazy Cart was an instant hit in the CNET office, with riders over 6 feet tall fitting snugly behind the wheel. Given the scuffed paint and chipped plaster in our office -- not to mention the various emails from our HR department -- you might want to make this an outside toy.

Pick up the Crazy Cart from Argos for £400 or Amazon.co.uk. Tell you what: pick up two and race them.
