Photographer: Alexander Choi
Shooting subject: Wildlife
Equipment: Canon EOS 30D, Sigma 170-500mm lens.
Alexander Choi began exploring photography at the age of 13, when he was given a film SLR by his father.
More recently, he took an interest in observing birds and wildlife, which led to combining his passions by photographing the animals he sees. Through practice, his bird watching skills have progressed to a level where he can identify the type of bird and its distance by listening to its call.
Eastern Blue-tongued lizardThis Eastern Blue-tongued lizard is one of the most breathtaking living creatures I have ever seen. She just turned up in my garden one day without any notice, and after being scared away initially, returned with a little bit more confidence so I could capture this shot.

Little Wattlebird eating nectar
I observed this bird for quite a while before taking the shot so I could capture it in an undisturbed environment.

Nutmeg Mannikins
Also known as a Spice Finches, these Nutmeg Mannikins are an introduced species to Australia. It was hard for me to identify them as the chicks look quite similar to other species.

New Holland Honeyeaters
Although this kind of bird is very social, they are still very shy toward people. I followed this Honeyeater for quite a long time to get this picture; she showed off her flight skills once she realised she was in no danger of being harmed.

Rainbow Lorikeet scratching
Rainbow Lorikeet shots were among the first subjects of my early bird photography. I was fascinated with them when I first started to observe birds at a young age.

Rainbow Lorikeet
This shot of a Rainbow Lorikeet was taken while I was observing another bird. Suddenly, I noticed this bird walking on the very end of the branch, providing a beautiful composition for a photo.

Spotted Pardalote
The Spotted Pardalote has an unusual profile with a calling similar to that of a bug. During the breeding season, the male develops a beautiful, exotic-coloured body.

Variegated Fairy-Wren
The Variegated Fairy-Wren lives in diverse habitats spread across most of Australia. The brightly coloured breeding male is by far the most exotic-looking with its blue crown and ear coverts; non-breeding males, females and juveniles have predominantly grey-brown plumage.
