Alcatel's OneTouch Idol X+ is all about core strength

LAS VEGAS -- Talk about pumping up the cores. The Alcatel OneTouch Idol X+ has eight of them in all.

Camera action

In addition to the CPU, Alcatel reaches high with a 13-megapixel camera and a 2-megapixel front-facer.

Design and build

Alcatel phones are typically lookers, but are generally competitively priced. The Idol X+ will come in on the higher end of the unlocked scale compared to its usual portfolio of sub-$300 phones, but should still compare favorably to superpremium competitors like Samsung and HTC.

SIM card slots

Magnetic microSD and SIM card slots are harder to open than to close.

Dual speakers

Alcatel has worked to boost the audio coming from the phone. Large dual speakers made song stream loudly during our hands-on demo.
