The Apple Watch Series 4 arrives in stores on Friday, Sept. 21. If you buy one, expect a surprise in the form of some seriously elaborate packaging (for the more expensive stainless steel version, at least). Gone is the cube-like box of the Series 3: This is an elongated box that opens like origami to reveal...
Two boxes! The band is in the thinner of the two, while the larger internal box holds the body of the watch itself.
Inside that larger box, you get the watch (center, in a protective pouch), the inductive charging cradle (left) and the USB AC adapter.
Here's the 44mm Apple Watch Series 4, straight out of the box.
Ready to rock.
Unsheathing our new baby.
This is the all-new heart rate sensor on the back.
An EKG sensor is also onboard for medical-quality heart measurements to measure possible heart arrhythmia, but it's not yet unlocked. It's coming later this fall.
Getting ready to set it up.
Bands still come in familiar long boxes. This is the crazy gold Milanese steel mesh band.
Clockwise from bottom left: the 44mm watch, the band and the charger (same as always, so your old chargers will work).
The new Apple Watch S4 works with older Apple Watch bands. Here are some new colors.
Band-swapping should be the same as always.
Sliding the gold band on the gold watch.
This is... a lot of gold.
A look at the Watch Series 4 in profile. Note the more subtle cellular red ring on the crown button.
I wouldn't wear this gold of a gold watch.
The new watch is a bit thinner, but not super thin.
Stay tuned for our full review.
