Trump veep pick Pence baffles with optical-illusion reflection photo

Republican vice presidential candidate Mike Pence throws the internet for a loop with a photo missing a mirror reflection.

It seems normal enough on the surface. Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, Donald Trump's choice for vice president, sits at a table in a Chili's restaurant with his family having dinner. He shares the photo on Twitter on Saturday. It gets over 5,000 heart-shaped "likes." And then Twitter has a minor freak-out because something is weird here. The mirror behind the family shows everyone's reflection except for Pence's daughter, Charlotte.

There are many possible explanations for this apparent optical illusion. Perhaps Pence's body is somehow entirely blocking Charlotte's from being seen in the mirror. It could just be happenstance based on the angle of the photograph. Twitter, however, has some much more entertaining ideas about the missing daughter.

First, there's the conspiracy theory explanation. Did someone photoshop Pence's family into the photo and forget to add her reflection? Next comes the supernatural explanation: Is Charlotte Pence a vampire? Is she a ghostly apparition?

The written content of Pence's tweet doesn't give us much to go on. "Busy weekend in NY! Enjoying a quick dinner with the family at @Chilis. Looking forward to getting back to Indiana," he says.

This isn't the first Twitter kerfuffle involving Pence. Last week, the Trump campaign got an extensive social media ribbing over the reveal of the new Trump/Pence logo.

Other Twitter users have much more pressing concerns than the missing reflection. With all the great restaurants in New York, why is Pence at chain-behemoth Chili's? That may end up being the biggest mystery of all.
