As first announced at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2012, popular smartphone navigation tool TomTom has received a major update for iOS, allowing users to plot courses using data from Facebook, and to automatically check in once they arrive.

iOS TomTom users will be able to sign in to Facebook and Twitter through the mapping tool, after installing the latest update. Once connected, these users will be able to see all upcoming Facebook Events through TomTom, and use the location of these Events to create new routes. A new course can also be plot, using the location provided by a recent "check-in" by a Facebook contact.
TomTom won't use Twitter to create routes, but will attempt to publish the completion of a journey to the network, alongside Facebook as well. Users can opt to automatically check in at their destination, too.
The new features are added as a free update for existing users, but will require new users to purchase the app first, with the price currently at AU$74.99. The app features full turn-by-turn voice-guided navigation, point-of-interest searching and Live Traffic updates, although the latter will require an extra subscription fee to activate.
