Thirteen-deal Thursday: Yeah, you read it right

A baker's dozen of seriously sweet deals on everything from games to laptops to VPN software, with a couple of freebies thrown in for good measure. Epic!

Yeah, no, it's entirely possible I've gone off the deep end. Because 13 deals? Only a crazy person would attempt such a thing.

Then crazy be I! At some point this morning, I realized there were too many good deals to share, and I couldn't stop at just a few. And because it's Thursday, I had to choose an alliterative number. (Thank goodness for 13, otherwise I'd have to corral 30!)

Let's get to it...

1. Print. Scan. Copy. Fax. Whether you need to perform all these functions or just a few, it's hard to beat this deal: Amazon has the Canon Pixma MX472 multifunction printer for $44.99 shipped. And check out the features: 30-sheet ADF, borderless photo printing, built-in Wi-Fi, and support for both AirPrint and Google Cloud Print. Forty. Five. Bucks.

2. Still shopping for a back-to-school laptop? Or just a replacement for your ol' clunker? Today only, and while supplies last, Best Buy has the Toshiba Satellite C55DT-B5208 15.6-inch laptop for $399.99 shipped (plus tax). Specs include an AMD A8 processor, 6GB of RAM, a 750GB hard drive, a touchscreen, and even a free game courtesy of AMD. This model normally runs about $150 more.

Apple

3. The iPhone 5c gets a bad rap, but I like the colorful design and durable casing. Granted, the iPhone 6 is just around the corner, but if you're not hung up on screen size, here's a chance to score a pretty sweet deal: Walmart has the iPhone 5c for just 97 cents when you sign up for for a two-year contract with AT&T, Sprint, Verizon, or U.S. Cellular. My advice: Grab the AT&T version, take it to T-Mobile, let them buy out your contract, and then enjoy contract-free service. (Then, if you really want to get crazy, ditch T-Mo for an even cheaper MVNO.) That should work, right?

4. Flash drives: Still useful? Of course they are! And insanely cheap, too: B&H Photo has the SanDisk Cruzer 32GB USB flash drive for $11.99 shipped. It's a USB 2.0 drive, so file transfers may be on the slow side, but it has a cool flip-top design and a two-year warranty. These probably won't last long at this price...

5. And you thought SCUDs were missiles. Turns out, they're also mobile chargers. Like this one: For a limited time, Amazon has the SCUD 5,000mAh portable external battery for $9.99, with free shipping for Prime subscribers. That's after applying coupon code O3OODUIB at checkout. The blue model is about gone (Update: now completely gone), but you can still score the silver one. If you miss it, try the Lepow Moonstone 6,000mAh charger (green or black) for $17.99 after applying coupon code D6PPNAQ6.

IceMonkey

6. Listen to this: Today only, and while supplies last, IceMonkey has the refurbished Beats by Dre UrBeats in-ear headphones for $39 shipped. I think it's ridiculous to pay $80-100 for a pair of these just so you can be trendy, but $39? That's reasonable for a high-end set of 'phones. So reasonable, in fact, that I suspect these will sell out in a hurry. So hurry! Update: Alas, these are already gone.

7. Target's $199 iPad Minis are pretty much sold out, but you can still get a deal if you don't mind last year's model. Staples has the 1st-gen iPad Mini (32GB) for $289 shipped (plus tax), in your choice of black or silver. Hit up cashback site Ebates to shave another 4 percent off that. Still pricey, yeah, but you really do need at least 32GB, so forget that 16GB model.

8. A smartphone camera can take you only so far. If you're serious about your snapshots, consider an SLR. Like this one: TigerDirect has the FujiFilm X-S1 12-megapixel dSLR camera for $299.96, plus about $7 for shipping. That's after applying coupon code HGB137044 at checkout. The X-S1 is notable for its 26x (!) optical zoom. CNET hasn't reviewed, but it has earned high praise from other sources.

9. Oh, good heavens, not another game bundle! I know, but when they're this good, I gotta share: the Humble Jumbo Bundle offers a terrific mix of indie and commercial games for whatever price you want to pay. Plus proceeds to charity, yada-yada-yada. You get seven games at the $15 mark, six if you beat the average (currently $6.33), and three surprisingly good ones if you're seriously cheap.

Crosley

10. As I noted earlier this week, I have a thing for Bluetooth speakers -- especially when they're unique in some way. Today only, and while supplies last, Meh has the Crosley Trio Bluetooth Stereo System for $45, plus $5 for shipping. This decidedly retro-looking three-piece bookshelf speaker system includes an AM/FM radio (bonus!) and sells for at least $70 elsewhere. Love the looks.

11. Connecting to public Wi-Fi networks can be a risky proposition, as you're effectively making your data accessible to any hacker with half a brain. As noted in CNET's tips for staying safe on public Wi-Fi, a VPN tool is one of the best lines of defense. For a limited time, StackSocial is offering a three-year subscription to VPN Unlimited Premium for $19. Regular price: $65. It protects not only your PCs, but also your mobile devices.

12. CNET's recently updated list of the 30 best iPad games includes Hitman Go (right), a puzzle-driven twist on the popular videogame series. It normally sells for $4.99, but this weekend, you can get Hitman Go for iPad for $1.99. That's 2 bucks very well spent.

13. Shakira, she of the famously honest hips, dropped a new album this month, and for a limited time, you can get it free when you download the Shakira app for Android or iOS. I can't say I'm a huge fan, but a free album from a famous pop star is a free album from a famous pop star. And normally it's at least 8 bucks.
