Longtime MCI exec to retire
A longtime entrenched MCI executive announces he plans to retire at the end of this year from the recently merged MCI WorldCom.
Gerald Taylor, who joined MCI in 1969, will remain on the MCI WorldCom board of directors. Taylor was named CEO of MCI in 1996 after serving as president and chief operating officer. During his tenure, he also held a variety of senior management positions within the MCI organization, including key roles in operations, sales, and marketing.
WorldCom's CEO Bernard Ebbers will serve as president and CEO of the combined company while MCI chairman Bert Roberts will be chairman. Taylor was to be the president and chief executive officer of MCI WorldCom International.
