Instagram photos still visible in tweets (in TweetDeck)
Although the popular photo-sharing service turned off Twitter Card integration, users can still see Instagram photos embedded in tweets in the Twitter-owned TweetDeck client.
TweetDeck users can still view Instagram photos directly in tweets, despite a much-publicized move by the popular photo-sharing service to shut off its users' ability to tweet images.
Last week, Instagram announced it was ending Twitter Card integration, its most aggressive step to date in its ongoing turf war with Twitter. The upshot of the decision, which Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom announced at Le Web in Paris, was that Twitter users could no longer view Instagram photos directly in tweets.
But for some reason, those photos are still visible when viewing tweets in TweetDeck. Whether that's because of an Instagram bug or oversight is unclear because Instagram -- which is owned by Facebook -- didn't respond to a request for comment, and Twitter said it was a question for Instagram.
A test by CNET revealed that Instagram photos are definitely not visible in Twitter's own branded clients. Oddly, though, the images are visible in TweetDeck, which is owned by Twitter.
The battle between Twitter and Instagram has been heating up lately. Just days after Instagram cut off Twitter Card integration, meaning that its users could no longer tweet filtered photos, Twitter rushed to fill that void by releasing its own set of photo-filtering tools.
