'Hunger Games' audiobook bundle aims to help feed the hungry

Name your own price for this Scholastic audio collection, which also includes "Goosebumps," "The 39 Clues" and more.

That's an awful lot of audiobook bang for the buck. Humble Bundle

What with all the games, apps, music, movies and other on-demand entertainment available to kids these days, it's easy to forget the simple pleasures of an audiobook.

Of course, a single "book on tape" can cost $15-$20, if not more, so parents can be forgiven for seeking less expensive options.

For a limited time, however, Humble Bundle is offering four DRM-free Scholastic audiobooks for whatever price you want to pay. Beat the average (currently $9.42) and you get eight more titles. And if you pay at least $15, you get the full bundle: 13 young-adult audiobooks.

Let's call these tiers one, two and three. Here's what you get in tier one:

  • "The Hunger Games" (perhaps you've heard of it?)
  • "Spirit Animals Book 1: Wild Born"
  • "Infinity Ring Book 1: A Mutiny in Time"
  • "Goosebumps Horrorland No. 1: Revenge of the Living Dummy"

In tier two, you get another "Goosebumps" title, the second "Hunger Games" book ("Catching Fire"), the first two books in the immensely popular "39 Clues" series, and several more.

Finally, tier three unlocks "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay." (Talk about timing, eh? I've heard there's a similarly titled movie opening soon.)

This is an insanely good deal. For a mere $15, you get an audiobook collection worth over $250. And, you get to donate a portion of your payment to Feeding America, which is why you should dig deep and maybe pay a little more than you might normally. Kudos to Humble Bundle and Scholastic for such an awesome promotion.

By the way, the books themselves are delivered in MP3 format, so you can listen to them on pretty much any audio device made in this century.

If you have kids in your household or need a gift for someone else's household, this is a can't-miss, must-buy, no-brainer. I'm in.
