Facebook enhances its Photos feature
The popular social network now lets you load larger photos and ones that can display in a shorter amount of time, while a revamped photo viewer lets you more easily eye those photos.
Facebook has made a few small but helpful improvements to its Photos feature.
Noting in a blog Friday that more than 250 million photos are uploaded every day, Facebook said it's always looking for ways to enhance the feature.
One improvement rolled out last week displays your uploaded photos at a higher resolution. Images will now appear at 960 pixels, compared with the prior size of 720 pixels, which means photos will be sharper and more detailed. Any photos you've already uploaded to the site will automatically appear at the higher resolution.
People viewing your photos will now be able to see them "twice as fast," according to Facebook, which apparently speeded up the time it takes for an image to load.
Finally, Facebook has tweaked its photo viewer based on feedback from its users. The new viewer replaces the current black background border with a white one that the company says will put more focus on the photo and less on the frame.
Not all Facebook users will see the enhancements just yet. As of late last week, Facebook said it is gradually rolling out the improvements over the course of a few days.
Facebook has been busy lately retooling certain features. Last week, the company announced changes to its privacy settings that would let people block unwanted photos and other items tagged on their profile pages. On Friday, Facebook also pulled the plug on its Deals product, which offered users discount coupons from local businesses.
