Twitter: Over 6.8 million watched Trump inauguration stream
Social network says Trump's swearing-in was its most watched live-stream ever, just surpassing its election-night coverage.
More than 6.8 million people turned to Twitter to watch President Donald Trump's inauguration, the social network said Tuesday.
Twitter said that its six-hour stream of PBS Newshour's coverage on Friday reached a record 6,824,000 million unique viewers, peaking at 377,000 viewers at 9:15 a.m. PT/12:15 p.m. ET.
Twitter added that the inauguration was its most-viewed live stream, just surpassing the 6.8 million who watched the social network's election-night stream.
The inauguration was a top trend globally with more than 12 million related tweets sent, peaking at 58,000 tweets per minute at 12:02 p.m. ET -- right around the time Trump delivered his inauguration speech.
However, there were inauguration-related glitches for Twitter. More than half a million Twitter users noticed on Friday that they were unwittingly following Trump via his @POTUS account when it switched from the control of outgoing President Barack Obama to Trump.
Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey apologized Saturday. He said in series of tweets that a technical issue caused the problem, which also affected other administration accounts, including @VP, @WhiteHouse and @PressSec.
