App of the Day: Magic Tree

Magic Tree is an absolutely adorable, social farm-management sim ... but if you're not careful, it'll cost you.

Welcome to CNET Australia's App of the Day, where you can see some of the coolest, silliest and most useful apps in action.

Little village sims are among my favourite games, but they also proliferate like mosquitoes, so initially I wasn't hugely interested in Magic Tree. It's rapidly become one of my favourites, just because it looks so polished. You plant and harvest crops, and raise and feed animals, and you can customise your little avatar with clothes, haircuts and make-up. It's social, too, so you can send presents to your friends. Like most games of this kind, though, it requires you to spend money to play. It's not an absolute necessity, but you'll quickly find that you can't progress without buying stars to unlock new things, so bear that in mind.
