Is Cullinan a real Rolls-Royce?
[MUSIC]
This is Cullinan, Rolls-Royce's hotly anticipated entry into the world of SUVs.
Rolls-Royce have taken their time with this car.
You see, it couldn't just be a good SUV.
This is where Rolls-Royce becomes an adjective and not just the name of a brand.
It couldn't just be a great SUV.
You had to be A Rolls Royce SUV.
Those area codes are important.
It denotes a quality of something that is beyond what normal manufactures will ascend to.
Some of that pulls out all the stops to create the most magnificent example of what it could be.
Rolls Royce does that in the.
Now it's trying to do it with an SUV.
Now to be a Rolls Royce, the [INAUDIBLE] first has to be an excellent road car, and when you compare it to the Phantom, there are some significant differences on how this is to drive Versus it's bigger brother.
In the Phantom, the steering is absolutely featherweight, easy to spin from lock to lock with just one finger.
In Cullinan the steering is more weighted, there's more tactility, you're getting more feedback back up through the road.
And some of that's coming back out through the tires as well.
This car, much like Phantom, has a custom set of continental tires dialed in exactly for this car.
And all though they're still built to give a huge amount of comfort and a lot of noise isolation from the road, they feel like they're giving more information back to you as a driver.
Again, it makes more for an engaging drive than you get in the Phantom.
The brakes, too, feel different.
In Phantom, they're set up for a chaffeur to drive.
The travel on the brake pedal is huge, giving the driver supreme precision over exactly how much brake to put in at any given point.
It gives the most comfortable possible ride To the passengers in the rear, this however is far more set up as a drivers car, the brake is a lot more responsive it requires a lot less distance to be pressed to get the same amount of stopping power.
Power.
A Phantom, especially for a passenger in the rear, is a cocoon of privacy were you're isolated away from the world.
Given space to think, space to contemplate life, relax and cut yourself off All from outside stimulation.
Cullen on the other hand provides you with this great 360 degree vista to engage with your surroundings.
And on a day like today with a place like this, my word is that worth it.
But comparing it to phantom- It's a fallacy.
Really, what you have to do is compare this to other SUVs.
And although it's less Rolls-Royce-y than a Phantom, it is way more Rolls-Royce-y Easy than any other SUV out on the market.
It's a lot quieter, the steering is a lot easier, the breaking is a lot more sophisticated and smooth, this really feels like a different car to any other SUV I've ever driven.
On the interior, the [UNKNOWN] does not disappoint, every surface, every material is the highest quality leather.
metal and wood.
The stitching is supreme.
The quality of the finish of everything is of the highest possible standards and nothing less than you'd expect from a Rolls-Royce.
This car, then, is a perfect ride for places like this, when you don't want to hide yourself away from the environment Around you.
You want to stick your head out and see the magnificence of nature all around you.
And with Cullinan being an SUV, you can explore a few more bits of it that are off the highway.
And that's exactly what I've been doing.
So on the off roady stuff, the [UNKNOWN] isn't as capable as all other SUVs on the market.
It's not a rock climbing monster.
You're not going to take this on the king of hammers, but it can handle the non-road stuff, gravel, mud, steep mountains that we went up today.
It deals with it effortlessly.
Driving any Rolls Royce is a This is a great experience.
But Cullinan feels different to any other Rolls-Royce I've ever driven.
The tactility through the steering, the feedback from the road.
The engagement of this 360 vista that allows you to drink in your surroundings.
It makes if more fun This is the most engaged driving experience I've ever had in a Roller.
And it makes it very different to driving any other car from their stable.
From their entire past, they've never had a four wheel drive car, so this feels unique in the history of all Rolls Royces.
Is it a real SUV?
It is absolutely a proper SUV.
And not only that, they managed to make it a Rolls Royce SUV and that was the hardest thing.
But maybe, the real question is, is it a real Rolls Royce?
Well, for me it comes back to the name.
You see, Rolls Royce is All have ethereal, intangible names.
Phantom, Ghost, Wraith.
They're almost philosophical in nature.
This is Cullinan.
It's named after a rock that was dug out of the ground with labor and sweat, but was then crafted into something beautiful and exquisite.
Such a luxury item adorns the Queen's Prey on.
And that's what [UNKNOWN] is.
Rolls Royce has spent years crafting something that is exquisite and beautiful but at the same time rugged and tough and able to handle the dirty stuff with a plumb.
So yes, Rolls Royce have created an SUV.
And this SUV is a real Rolls Royce.
