Wells Fargo mutual funds online

Wells Fargo is allowing customers to apply online for a mutual fund account.

With the Securities and Exchange Commission having opened the doors for online trading, Wells Fargo has added an investment service that allows customers to apply electronically for a money market mutual fund account.

In the Wells Fargo Investments section, customers can use any of three "calculators" that make assessments about their financial status based on information supplied by the customer. The calculators can help determine how much money customers need to have on hand for emergencies, if liquid assets are performing well, and whether a tax-free fund would be appropriate.

After reading through a prospectus that outlines the risks of the investment, a user checks a box onscreen indicating that he or she has read the disclosure statement and can then apply online using either Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.0 or Netscape Navigator 2.0.
