Vine headed to Windows Phone
The battle of the short-and-sweet video apps heats up as Twitter plans to go after new territory.
Twitter's Vine application for creating and sharing 6-second looping videos will join a collection of hit social and photo applications making their way to Windows Phone 8, Nokia revealed Thursday in a press statement on the launch of its Lumia 1020.
A Twitter spokesperson confirmed that Vine is coming to Windows Phone but declined to disclose additional details, such as whether the video application would be built around the Lumia 1020's impressive 41 megapixel camera.
The pending Vine for Windows Phone adds even more color to the young app's video melee with the older and more entrenched Instagram, which is only available on iPhone and Android. Last month, the Facebook-owned photo app, now with 130 million active users, added 15-second videos to the mix. In the first 24 hours following the release, Instagram users uploaded 5 million video clips.
Last we heard, Vine had amassed more than 13 million registered users, but that was before the app was released on Android. Vine was also updated last week with several essential exploration features that are helping expose top video creators and their machinations to larger audiences.
