Upside Magazine, a publication focused on the business of technology, has appointed John Carroll as president and chief executive. Upside said Carroll will be responsible for managing the daily operations of the company and will oversee the magazine's strategic initiatives. Ed Ring, who had been Upside's interim CEO since September, will serve as a consultant to the company. Ring had stepped in for CEO David Bunnell, who became the editorial director of the magazine.
Carroll, according to Upside, is a veteran in the publishing industry, holding executive positions at Penton Publishing, Medical Economics Company and PennWell. In September, Upside's technology news site, UpsideToday, ceased operations because of insufficient funds.
