Streaming company travels without wires

Streaming media technology company Luxxon says it is tapping into the burgeoning travel business by beaming vacation information to wireless devices. The move is possible through a partnership with Pompano, Fla.-based Visual Data, which supplies streaming media content such as travel, health care and business. The relationship will allow wireless operators to deliver Visual Data's video tours of hotels, resorts, golf courses and other tourist attractions to wireless machines using Luxxon's Mediator Streaming System technology. Luxxon, founded in 1998 and based in Mountain View, Calif., recently raised $21 million in a second round of financing from a variety of investors including Cisco Systems, Allen & Company, Sony Corporation of America, and MKS Ventures. Its announcement comes just days after San Francisco film Web site Eveo said it was jumping into the travel market by launching a new product dubbed EveoTravel, designed for the tourism business.
