America Online chief technology officer Marc Andreessen announced today that he has invested an undisclosed amount in Internet start-up Accompany.

San Francisco-based Accompany sells discount computer products, electronics, tools, and sporting goods and passes on price breaks to customers who agree in a group to purchase multiple products, such as ten people agreeing to each buy one digital camera.

Andreessen will also join the company's board of directors.

Andreessen, cofounder of Netscape Communications, became chief technology officer at AOL after AOL completed its $6.7 billion acquisition of Netscape.
