Time Warner announced the launch of its Road Runner cable Internet service in Portland, Maine. The service, which will use a Toshiba platform and modem, will be made available to 77,000 homes and business, the company said. Standard residential rates for the high-speed access are $39.95 per month; business rates are $79.95 for a standalone computer and $299.95 for a LAN connection. Time Warner will provide every public school, most private ones, and all public libraries within Time Warner Cable's service area with free access.
