Short take: State bans AOL from seeking new users

America Online has been banned from seeking new users in the state of Washington. A King County Superior Court judge issued an order barring AOL from running new advertising in the state, pending the outcome of a lawsuit filed against AOL for breaching its contract to provide services, according to the Associated Press. The order comes after attorneys general from more than 40 states signed an agreement with the online service, calling for the company to give member refunds. The agreement also banned AOL from issuing new advertisements promoting the service.
