Short Take: Record companies put songs on Web

Five major record companies have granted permission to post samples of their songs on the Web. The record companies include Warner, PolyGram, EMI-Capitol, and MCA. Tunes.com said it initially will post 200,000 samples by mid-1997 as part of its plans to sell recorded music over the Internet.
