Short Take: Lotus ships most email clients

Lotus Development shipped more email clients than any other software company last year, delivering 8.4 million email clients including both its Notes and cc:Mail offerings, according to a survey from International Data Corporation. Netscape Communications' email software built into the Navigator browser was the single most popular messaging product, however, with 5.5 million new users in 1996. IDC also estimates that Netscape shipped 45,000 email servers in 1996.
