Short Take: ICANN names seven more domain registrars

The nonprofit administering many of the Net's core functions today authorized seven new companies to register the most popular forms of domain names. The shared registration system being implemented by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is designed to end Network Solutions' monopoly on registering addresses ending in ".com," ".net," and ".org." The companies are CommuniTech, Gandi, iDirections, InterNext, Proboard Technologies, PSI-USA, and Signature Domains.
