Short Take: Compaq-DEC deal to face EC inquiry

Compaq's proposed buyout of Digital Equipment is likely to face a full inquiry by European antitrust regulators, perhaps delaying the buyout until July, analysts and lawyers told Bloomberg. The European Commission is expected to decide early next week whether to extend its deadline for regulatory approval by four months. A Compaq spokesman said the company plans to close the deal during the second quarter.
