Rdio's evolved look features album artwork much more prominently in the new player, which can be expanded from the bottom of the screen in either the web or desktop version. The player also colour-coordinates the background in this expanded view depending on the album art of the current track playing.

For a more social experience, users that have connected their Facebook or Twitter accounts will see their friends instantly on the home screen of the desktop app. This will also surface recommendations based on songs they like.

A new AutoPlay feature automatically starts playing music that is similar to the previous song played. Like Pandora, Rdio now supports a thumbs up and down rating to songs played on an artist or song station, or through the AutoPlay feature. Over time, Rdio will learn your likes and dislikes to improve this personalised playlist.

Last week, Spotify also announced an update to its music discovery service, giving users personalised recommendations.

All of the features are available now in an update to the web and desktop player.
