HBO Go landing on Xbox 360 on April 1?
Eric Kessler, co-president of HBO, has let it be known that April 1 will be the long-awaited day its streaming service comes to the console, Engadget says.
After taking some time to break out from the browser, HBO Go is making some serious inroads into your living room.
Speaking to Engadget last night, HBO Co-President Eric Kessler said that his company plans to make HBO Go available on the Xbox 360 on April 1. The launch is by no means a coincidence: it matches up with the premiere of season 2 of HBO's hit series "Game of Thrones."
Microsoft announced last year that it would be offering HBO Go, which allows HBO subscribers to stream the company's entire line of television shows, documentaries, and films, on its Xbox 360 this year. At the time, the company didn't provide a release date, and still has not said when the service might be available. The software company has not responded to CNET's request for confirmation of Kessler's claim.
The big question Xbox owners might have about the HBO Go launch revolves around who will be able to access the content. HBO recently brought the streaming service to some Samsung HDTVs, but Time Warner Cable customers were not allowed to access it from the sets. It was an odd omission, since Time Warner Cable customers are able to access HBO Go from the browser.
Last year, HBO Go launched on Roku set-top boxes. As with Samsung's televisions, the platform wasn't available to Time Warner Cable customers.
HBO did not immediately respond to CNET's request for confirmation of the Engadget report or to comment on provider availability with the Xbox 360 launch.
