The premium cable channel Epix can now be found on the PlayStation 3.

Epix today launched an app on Sony's video game console, allowing viewers to access more than 3,000 movie titles, including "The Avengers" and "Skyfall." Epix's library of comedy, music, and sports events will also be available. The premium cable channel also plans to launch a separate app for the PlayStation Vita in the coming weeks.

The app will require an authentication code from a cable, telecom, or satellite-television provider, so consumers who don't already subscribe to Epix won't have access to the content in the app. In conjunction with the launch, Epix is offering a two-week free trial.

The PlayStation 3 app is available for download for free at the PlayStation Store.

Epix is promising that PlayStation Plus members will get access to exclusive content such as songs from its original concert events and a free movie or special each week.

Epix is a joint venture involving a host of prominent movie studios including MGM and Paramount. Epix is already available on the Xbox, as well as Roku players, iOS-based devices, and some Samsung televisions.
