President George W. Bush has picked Hewitt Pate to be the next at the U.S. Justice Department. Pate replaces former Assistant Attorney General Charles James, who left last fall to become general counsel of Chevron Texaco. Pate already is the acting antitrust chief and previously was a partner at the law firm of Hunton and Williams. The nomination, announced late Wednesday, is subject to Senate confirmation.
