Java software provider BEA Systems has released a product designed to simplify the task of sending back-office information to mobile devices. BEA said Monday that its MobileAware Interactive Server--BEA WebLogic Edition is targeted at telecommunications service providers and businesses in other industries. The software is designed to run with BEA's Web portal software to send data to mobile devices.

The new server will work in conjunction with BEA's Java-based software development tools, allowing customers to rapidly create mobile applications, according to BEA. BEA's MobileAware server software is expected to compete with specialized offerings from Sybase, as well as mobile server products from BEA's primary competitors Oracle, IBM and Microsoft.
