Welcome to CNET Australia's App of the Day, where you can see some of the coolest, silliest and most useful apps in action.

Silent Film Director for iPhone is this nifty little video-editing app that lets you turn your footage into a silent film with a bunch of cool effects. These include sepia, black-and-white and 1960s-style filters, soundtracks, the ability to upload your own music and the ability to speed up or slow down your footage (think Benny Hill). A pro version (for an additional AU$0.99) even lets you add title cards for an even more authentic feel. You import footage or shoot it from within the app, and apply your edits from there. It's a pretty cool way to showcase your home movies, or even, if you're feeling particularly creative, create little films of your own.

Silent Film Director is even running a silent film contest, where you can win prizes if you create a particularly awesome film, so check it out.
