Welcome to CNET Australia's App of the Day, where you can see some of the coolest, silliest and most useful apps in action.

It's just a point of simple fact that the camera apps pre-installed on smartphones are bollocks. And it was my quest for the perfect camera app that led me to HDR Camera+. Eh, it was less than a buck (on sale at the time), what did I have to lose. (I like to live dangerously.) And so it came to pass that suddenly I could take really nice photos on my HTC Rhyme. All you have to do is tap on the screen, and the app takes three frames in succession (so it's important not to move too much, although it adjusts for natural unsteadiness). You can even adjust image settings on the fly, which means awesome photos with minimum editing. It costs a little more now, but still worth it; if you're wary of throwing dollars at it, there's even a lite version so you can try it out first.
