AOL Boasts 4.5 Million Subscribers

America Online today announced that it has reached 4.5 million subscribers, just one week after CompuServe announced that it reached 4 million subscribers.

America Online expects its membership to grow to 5 million by early next year. AOL also recently reported that total member usage in one day exceeded 1 million hours.

AOL had 1.5 million subscribers in the beginning of 1995. Company officials attribute the growth to the launch of GNN, the company's Net-only service.
