7-Eleven: Slurpees, hot dogs, console games

7-Eleven--probably best-known for Slurpees, hot dogs, and being open all night--is expanding its game offerings by getting into used console titles.

The franchise announced Monday a partnership with Game Trading Technologies to create a new program called Great Games Below $20. The program will bring "a mixture of games" into more than 3,000 7-Eleven stores starting immediately.

All titles available in 7-Eleven stores will be preowned and priced at $19.99 or below.

According to Game Trading Technologies spokesman Jody Janson, all the major consoles and handheld platforms will be represented in 7-Eleven's game lineup. Janson also said that "if there is demand" for older titles (I asked if games "for, say, the SNES would be available"), they will also be offered in-store.

7-Eleven's decision to roll out the game program to 3,000 stores followed a trial run in about 40 of its stores. It was such a success, according to Janson, that 7-Eleven decided to roll it out nationwide. The company hopes to have used games available in "most" of its U.S. stores by September.
