Buzz Lightyear puts his years of academy training to use in his spinoff adventure.

Pixar

We got a fresh trailer for Pixar's Lightyear on Thursday, and it suggests the CGI animated movie will put Buzz out of time as a result of an experimental hyperspace journey. This origin story for the character who inspired the Toy Story action figure is scheduled to hit theaters on June 17.

Our hero (played by former Captain America Chris Evans) and robot companion cat Sox (Peter Sohn) will apparently be marooned on a hostile planet 4.2 million light-years from Earth and 60 years in the future, and have to try to find their way home through space and time.

He's joined by a ragtag band of amusing recruits called the Junior Zap Patrol, voiced by Keke Palmer, Dale Soules and the ubiquitous Taika Waititi. Their mission is threatened by the villainous Emperor Zurg (James Brolin) and his army of robots.
