Amazon has launched a new Kindle bookstore to cover Spanish-speaking customers in the U.S.

Opening its doors today, "eBooks Kindle en Espanol" will offer a slew of popular English titles translated into Spanish as well as Spanish-language bestsellers.

The store is currently home to around 30,000 books, according to Amazon, including those from Nobel Prize winning authors Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Camilo Jose Cela, and Mario Vargas Llosa. Readers will also find more than a thousand free classics and exclusive Kindle Singles in Spanish from such as authors Kurt Vonnegut and Susan Orlean.

Amazon is also offering subscriptions to 14 leading Latin American newspapers and compilations of current articles written by Mexican journalists.

Other features include dedicated help pages and phone and e-mail support for Spanish-speaking users.

Customers in the U.S. can shop directly at the new Web site via their PCs or set their Kindle readers to display the store's selection of books. Many Kindle e-reader apps can also be customized for Spanish, Amazon added.

"We're excited to introduce Spanish language storefronts on all Kindles, as well as a dedicated store for our Spanish-speaking customers in the U.S.," Russ Grandinetti, vice president of Kindle Content, said in a statement. "We expect our Spanish-speaking customers to enjoy both the newly added books in Spanish, and the improved shopping and reading experience -- including dedicated customer service in Spanish -- that we've added to eBooks Kindle en Espanol."

Authors and publishers who want to submit their books through Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing can select "Spanish" to make sure those books are also available in the new store.
