Samsung's Galaxy Tab 3 Lite looks to be one of this year's cheapest tablets after it went on sale -- possibly without Samsung being aware of it -- in Poland. A user manual for the same model number also appeared on Samsung's Polish site, showing a pretty chunky slate with physical buttons (pictured below).

It's on sale in Poland for 799zl, which is £160 in the Queen's blessed English pounds sterling.

There's a good reason for that low price: it's lumbered with rubbish specs. Chief of which is the screen, an abysmally low-res 1,024x600-pixel affair. Stretched over 7 inches, that's a block-tastic 170 pixels per inch.

Its guts aren't much more attractive, with a 1.2GHz dual-core chip, a mediocre 1GB of RAM and a stingy 8GB of storage, which you can at least expand with a memory card.

It runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, which isn't the latest version, or even the one before it. I wouldn't hold my breath for an update to KitKat, either.

This super-budget slate hasn't yet been officially announced. I asked Samsung whether it was coming to the UK and a spokesperson said in a statement, "Samsung does not comment on rumour or speculation." Which makes no sense, but there you go.

If it does reach our bargain-loving shores, it'll be up against reasonably priced 7-inch tablets such as the £119 Tesco Hudl and the £130 Asus MemoPad HD 7, both of which have significantly better specs.

Are you looking for a cheapo slate? Which ones have caught your fancy so far? Is price the most important factor, or is there a minimum spec you're looking for? Share your thoughts down in the cut-price comments, or over on our high-value Facebook page.

Update 6.10pm: Added (no) comment from Samsung.

Update 16 January: A previous version of this story incorrectly said the Polish price was 399zl -- it's 799zl, which is £160.
