When it comes to security software, there are plenty of perfectly good freebies. Avast Free, Microsoft Security Essentials, Panda Cloud Antivirus Free Edition...the list goes on and on. You really can safeguard a PC without spending a dime.

That said, why not use a full-featured, support-backed security suite if you can get it for free as well? Every so often I see a deal on one such suite, but today, Newegg has nine Windows security programs for free (after rebate).

Scroll down just a bit and you'll see the various choices, all of which show their regular prices and then "$0.00 with rebate" in smaller print below. Here's the rundown of your options:

All these deals include free shipping, so you're paying only the already-discounted price up front, then getting a rebate for that price. Note that the rebates vary from one company to the next; some will send you a check, some a prepaid debit card, and so on. Make sure to read all the fine print.

So, which package should you choose? I'm no expert on this stuff, but CNET noted that Webroot SecureAnywhere Complete "stands out for being an entirely new program with the smallest installer around." You should definitely do your homework before choosing any security package.

Just do it quickly. A few of these deals end Wednesday; the rest end a few days after that. In the meantime, if you have any thoughts on which of these is the best pick, by all means share.

And if you think rebates blow and free security software rulez, well, feel free to comment on that as well -- keeping in mind that I've heard it many times before. Just saying.

Bonus deal: Here's something you don't see, well, ever: a sale on Apple stuff. Best Buy is offering small discounts on all iMacs, iPods, MacBook Airs, and MacBook Pros. For example, you can get a fourth-gen iPod Touch (8GB) for $183.99 or a MacBook Air (128GB) for $1,044.99. Small savings, to be sure, but savings nonetheless.
