Troubleshooting MOTU MachFive: Performance issues

CNET staff

We have received some insightful reports from the first receivers of the highly anticipated MOTU MachFive virtual sampler.

Performance issues Kevin Ryan writes "The problem with a lot of the samples is excessive reverb. This can be easily adjusted (but) I don't like the fact that I need to immediately adjust the reverb to play a sample.

"I have a dual processor PowerMac G4. I used 1 instance of MachFive with four MIDI parts (tracks) and had the main processor at just about 75% usage, while the second processor used barely 15% (under Mac OS 9). When running the same song in the new OS X version, I experienced extreme procesor spikes."

If you are experiencing unusually high processor usage, you can set your polyphony level to a minimum, and run MachFive in 32-bit mode to reduce requirements.
