We have received several replies to yesterday's item on problems with video synch and MPG movies with the Sony DCS S70 still/video camera. They are:

Use a smaller size movie Peter Hammond writes: "The reported problem happens when using the 320 HQ mode on the S70, which plays back at 640x480 on a TV, and it seems to have problems with Quicktime playback. However, the standard 320 x 160 size works fine for me."

Kwan Yeoh writes: "I am using a Sony DSC S75 with 320x240 MPEG1 video on a beige G3/233 with Mac OS 8.1 and Quicktime 5, and there is no problem."

Use OS X instead Jerry Lyman writes: "Regarding the Sony DSC S70 movie playback with quicktime. I have the S75 model camera and had similar results with QuickTime playback in OS 9.1. However Mac OS X playback was fine."

Problem with QuickTime playback only? Chris Rivera writes: "I have a Sony DSCF505V that does the same thing with .mov files that are downloaded and played on Quicktime 4.1.2. (On a Dual USB iBook) I did burn a copy of the same .mov file and it played normally on a Wintel machine using RealPlayer. I did notice turning the sound all the way off on the Quicktime display did improve the video, but once the sound was turned up, the video glitches occurred again."

Update: Chris adds: "I just upgraded to Quicktime 5.0.1 and now the picture/sound worked perfectly. The video is at the 320HQ mode. It seems as if Quicktime 4.1.2 doesn't do as well for that mode as 5.0."
