Users of the AppleTV have noticed that when their Macs are streaming content to the AppleTV and the Mac goes into sleep mode, the content on the AppleTV stops.

MacFixIt forum user "hutchball" writes:

"I think this may be new problem but while watching a movie on my Apple TV, streaming the content form my mac, mac goes to sleep. Its a movie that is being streamed from the mac as Apple TV is full. This causes to the movie to stop being played. I'm sure this never used to happen. Is this a common problem? Is there a way to resolve it?"
Possible solutions
The Mac OS allows you to prevent your Mac from going into sleep mode:
1. Open System Preferences > Energy Saver
2. Using the sliding button for "Put the computer to sleep when it is inactive for:" drag the blue arrow to the far right -- the setting for "Never".
Note: It is a good idea to leave the "Put the display(s) to sleep when the computer is inactive for:" setting at a relatively low number when streaming your content.
There are also third-party applications available that easily allow you to toggle your sleep settings. MacFixIt MacAuthor "Ira L" suggests:
"You can tell your Mac to never sleep. There are many ways to do this. I like using Sleepless because it is easy to turn off and on and you can tell when it is doing its thing."
