Sherlock X indexes: Can't schedule or search from OS 9?

CNET staff
Running Mac OS X Server 10.x, Nicholas Costa reports two issues with Sherlock.

First, the OS X version does not offer an option to Index at scheduled times (such as 2:00 a.m.). There are potential work-arounds for this, but having Sherlock match the Mac OS 9 feature in this regard would be welcome.

Second, and more serious, Nicholas found that Mac OS 9 users logging into the server cannot access the indexed data to do a "Find by Content" search. It appears that Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X index in different and incompatible ways. In particular, Mac OS X uses invisible .FBCIndex and .FBCLockFolder files within each indexed directory (plus a .FBCSemaphoreFile inside a Private folder in the same directories) - whereas Mac OS 9 uses an invisible "TheFindByContentFolder" (containing a 'TheFindByContentIndex" file) at the root level of each indexed volume.
