Odds and Ends: iChat File Transfer Knowledge Base Article; Running Soundcheck in iTunes
iChat File Transfer Knowledge Base Article Apple has published a Knowledge Base article (#107192) detailing iChat's inability to transfer files through a Firewall using Rendezvous. The explanation reads:
"When initiating a chat via Rendezvous, you may see a white chat window that contains no text. This is because the Firewall enabled in the Sharing preference pane blocks Rendezvous chats and file transfers within iChat. Solution:
- Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
- Choose Sharing from the View menu.
- Click the Firewall tab.
- Click Stop to disable the built-in Firewall.
- Attempt the Rendezvous chat or file transfer. Either should work as expected."
Running Soundcheck in iTunes Frederick Wedler offers a workaround that allows the soundcheck operation in iTunes to be run after being cancelled during the application's first run:
- "First, export all of your custom playlists (except the smart lists that were default from iTunes) to text files one by one (File>Export Song List).
- Next, export your library the same way. Quit iTunes.
- Now, go to your iTunes folder and delete the 'iTunes 3 Music Library' and 'iTunes Music Library.xml' files.
- Start iTunes and it will be empty. Import the text file for your library that you exported. Once that finishes exporting, the soundcheck will run. Let it.
- Once soundcheck finishes it's scan, you can now import your playlists. You will also notice that importing the library file re-created your library, but also created a playlist called "Library." You can delete this.
- Voila. You entire music library soundchecked and all your playlists back.
