New iBook feedback

CNET staff

We would love to hear your comments about Apple's newly refreshed line of iBooks which sport processor speeds now ranging up to 900 MHz, but lack the much ballyhooed AirPort Extreme networking standard which Apple last week boasted has sold more than 150,000 units since its introduction.

Apple has now issued a developer note describing the new iBooks in detail, and pointing out the three areas of component refresh:

  • Processor speed: The clock speed of the Power PC G3 microprocessor is now 800 or 900 MHz.
  • Graphics IC: The display controller is now an ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 with 32 MB of graphics DDR SDRAM.
  • Hard disk storage: The computer now has a hard disk drive with a storage capacity of 30 or 40 GB (and CTO 60 GB).

Apple has chosen to equip its new iBooks with the ability to boot Mac OS 9 - a feature unavailable on any other Macs introduced (not re-packaged) after January 1, 2003.
