Mini-Disc: record, playback, upload to Mac? Ars Technica reports that, perhaps a bit too late, Sony has finally decided to play nice with Mac users.  "According to Reg Hardware, Sony's latest Mini-Disc player, the MZ-RH1, will be capable of uploading recorded music to an Apple computer via a USB 2.0 connection.  Now, writing a story on a Mini-Disc player on Infinite Loop would normally fill my inbox with all sorts of 'colorful' e-mail from the masses, but those of you who have been hooked on Garageband might want to consider portable recording solutions for impromptu jam sessions." Apple Gets 'Security Lecture' from Microsoft eWeek reports that a Microsoft program manager who regularly serves as the public face of the software maker's security response process rapped Apple for the way it handles security guidance to customers. "In a series of entries on his personal blog at Stepto.com, Microsoft program manager Stephen Toulouse called on the Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple to hire a security czar and revamp the way information is released when Mac OS X updates are shipped." Apple MacBook Pro is fastest Intel Core Duo notebook Macworld UK reports that new benchmark figures testing Windows XP running on all available Intel-powered Macs have been revealed, and the tests show that the MacBook Pro is the fastest available Core Duo-powered notebook on the market when running Photoshop. "GearLog tested performance of Microsoft's OS on a Mac mini, an iMac and a MacBook Pro. They found that: 'The MacBook Pro is the fastest Core Duo laptop we've tested running the Photoshop scripts. It's faster than other laptops originally designed for Windows. This bodes very well for the performance of an Intel-accelerated OS X Photoshop, when that finally appears.'" More.
