Ivy Bridge-powered iMacs coming June?
Rumours say the new iMac range will land in June, powered by Intel's Ivy Bridge processors.
Apple is rumoured to be refreshing its iMac range of desktops in June. And they'll be powered by Intel's upcoming Ivy Bridge chips, promising even more power than before.
The report comes from the Chinese-language Economic Daily News, who quotes sources from the supply chain, Digitimes reports. Quanta Computer and Foxconn are expected to be suppliers, as with previous models, so while they will have new features, don't expect too many cosmetic changes. But it's what's inside that counts, right?
Previous reports pegged the new iMacs to land in June or July, and now that's been narrowed down to June. The new desktops are widely expected to come packing Intel's Core i5 and Core i7 processors, based on the new Ivy Bridge architecture.
But there are some changes afoot on the exterior. An anti-glare display is expected, which has previously only been seen on MacBooks from Apple before. And as if the current models aren't thin enough, these new ones are expected to be even slimmer.
Apple's also planning to update its range of laptops with Ivy Bridge processors around the end of June, according to the report. It doesn't elaborate on what else we can expect from the laptops, but hopefully these will be the ones toting the same retina display as can be seen on the new iPad.
Previous rumours also said we can expect a slimmed-down MacBook Pro that looks almost identical to a MacBook Air. That or a larger and more powerful MacBook Air. Either would be great news, but there's no further word on either as yet. Not long to wait until the end of June, I suppose.
The current range of iMacs were launched in May 2011, and feature Intel's Sandy Bridge chips. Intel's Ivy Bridge processor is expected to find its way into the first Windows 8 tablet -- made by Lenovo. Other reports have pegged an official announcement from Intel regarding Ivy Bridge for 29 April.
