iDVD 5.0.x continues to exhibit issues properly handling media directly exported from other iLife apps, including iMovie HD, and iPhoto 5.0.x

MacFixIt reader Ashley Hunter, who had problems burning a directly imported iPhoto 5.0.x slide-show, was able to workaround the issue by simply quitting iDVD, then re-attempting to open the iPhoto slideshow from within the latter application.

She writes:

"I have had a problem burning a sideshow that was sent from iPhoto 5 to iDVD 5. I would get a message that it was unable to render the menus. I found the solution was to save my project to my movies folder, Quit iDVD and then restart iDVD and open the saved DVD project, and then burn it."

Error -1 Meanwhile, we continue to receive reports from users who are receiving the error message "-1" when attempting to burn either iPhoto slideshows or iMovie projects with iDVD 5.0.x.

David Hannon writes:

"I put together a nice 1 hour slideshow with music, using iPhoto 5. i sent it to iDVD 5. I took about 8 hours to encode on my 1.25 G4. Then about 4 hours for iDVD to encode it and begin burning it to disc.

"After burning for quite awhile, the burning quit saying 'Errors were found during the burning process. Error #-1 was reported.'

"This is the second time this has happened, wasting 2 day of work and two DVD discs. I never had this problem with iDVD 4 on the same types of projects."

For some users, this problem only occurs with movies created in older versions of iMovie. Opening the files in iMovie 5.0.x, and re-saving them resolves the issue in these cases.

MacFixIt reader Bob writes:

"I also received an Error 1 message after trying both to burn a DVD and then to save it to a disk image. I had imported an iMovie 3.x into iDVD 5.x. When I opened the movie in iMovie 5.x it 'upgraded' it. I created a new iDVD with the upgraded movie, and everything worked fine."
