Like planets around a star, the refrigerator is the central focal point in the kitchen. It's hard to escape its influence; massive and enticing, it draws us in with the mysteries it holds. Like what's for dinner. Luckily we can now look beyond for answers. The secrets of the stars may be unreachable for the moment, but as for what to do with that pound of ground beef, we need look no further than the refrigerator door.

Set to be available in early summer, the Samsung LCD Refrigerator RF4289 looks to release us from the limitations of physical recipe books. With an 8-inch LCD touch-screen display that has Wi-Fi connectivity, the new major appliance will incorporate refrigerator controls as well as kitchen relevant applications from Pandora, Twitter, Epicurious, AP News, Google Calendar and WeatherBug. Additional features will include a photo album and a note-writing app, allowing for the fridge to retain a clutter-free appearance while still maintaining its personal touch as the social center of the kitchen.

With a 28-cubic-foot capacity and four-door accessibility, the modern appliance strives to be more than just a passing fad. The refrigerator, with its variable temperature zones, provides a spectrum of cooling relevant to whatever needs may be. In addition to a standard freezer and refrigerator compartment, the appliance houses a third, 4.0-cubic-foot drawer that has a range of 29 degrees to 42 degrees, independent of the rest of the fridge. Whether it be grabbing a cool drink from the filtered water and ice dispenser, or viewing a recipe off of one of the apps, the connected fridge stands to be a major draw in any kitchen.

The Wi-Fi-enabled screen will also be available in the Samsung RSG309 side-by-side later this year.
